Ambon is a one of the largest cities in eastern Indonesia and the capital of the Maluku Province. The port is a ‘Port of Entry’ and clearance formalities are fairly straightforward.

Banks, Atm’s and money changers are available. Food, fuel and water can be arranged and provisioning is good. Some English is spoken and the people are friendly and helpful. Pattimura Airport is located 7 miles from the harbour.

Unfortunately the harbour is quite dirty, the anchorages are deep and the holding is poor. By cruising standards there is little reason to hang around.

The bay is protected in the SE monsoon season and although trade winds are offshore, some boats have been known to drag.

In the NW monsoon season the weather comes out of the W and a semi-protected anchorage can be found in the small bight next to town.
